As part of today’s joint announcement, Level 3 and Cogent underscored their common view that the implementation of their modified peering agreement, effective immediately, serves the best interests of both companies’ customers. As a result of the agreement, Level 3 will not proceed with disconnection on November 9, as previously announced.

Cogent and Level3 are apparently having some disagreements and Level3 decided to block all communications between their network and Cogent’s and apparently Cogent has chosen not to use their transit to complete their reachability. More details can be found on Slashdot and WebHostingTalk.

Here’s some interresting stats from Netcraft for October 2005 ! There is currently 74,409,971 web sites available on the internet, an increase of 2.68 million sites from September.

We can notice movement in web servers this month, while Windows servers gain 0.75% market share in active sites. Apache’s servers fell by 0.67%. However, Apache continues to maintain a large lead and even improved its chare by 0.74% in hostnames, serving more than 50 million web sites !
